Jaipur, Nov 19: The political parties might not have offered 33 per cent seats to women contestants but the figure in Rajasthan has gone up from four seats in 1952 to 114 in next months's assembly elections. Four women contestants figured in the first assembly polls in 1952 with the number rising to 97 in 1993, according to an election department report.

In the December 1 polls, BJP has put 21 women, Congress - 19, BSP - seven, Indian National Lok Dal - six, Samajwadi Party - five, Nationalist Congress Party and Lok Janshakti Party - three each, Akhil Bhartiya Congress Dal (Ambedkar), Social Justice Front and Rashtriya Lok Dal - two each, JD(U) and Jammu Kashmir National Panther's Party - one each.

Forty two women are contesting as independents, it said. The key contestants are BJP's Vasundhara Raje, Rama Pilot of Congress, Kamla (deputy chief minister), Sheel Dhabhai (Jaipur Mayor), Surya Kanta Vyas, Kiran Yadav and Anita Singh.
