UJC warns local journalists
Srinagar, Sept 17: United Jehad Council, a conglomerate of militant outfits in Pakistan and headed by Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Sallahuddin, today warned local journalists of serious consequences for allegedly projecting a `wrong` image of the first phase of Jammu and Kashmir polls.

"wrong" image of the first phase of Jammu and Kashmir polls.
"At a crucial juncture of jehad (armed crusade), several dailies published from Srinagar have not given enough coverage to the poll boycott campaign and instead projected what New Delhi wanted them to," UJC said in a statement faxed to a local news agency, Kashmir press service. UJC accused the vernacular media of not playing its role well and said, "We know the black sheeps within the journalistic fraternity, but we want to provide them with a chance to mend their ways."
It may be mentioned that the vernacular media has been a constant target of militants with several attacks carried out local journalists a couple of months before the polls were announced. Two journalists survived bid on their lives by militants in May and June this year.
