Mumbai, Dec 10: Interpol officials are in touch with the city police in connection with the last week's detention of underworld don Anees Ibrahim in Dubai.

Forty-two-year-old Anees Ibrahim, younger brother of Karachi-based underworld don and Mumbai serial blasts accused Dawood Ibrahim, was detained in Dubai by Interpol and the UAE authorities on the basis of a red-corner notice. ''Yesterday Interpol officials held detailed telephonic conversation with the top brass of the Mumbai police in this,'' a senior crime branch-CID officer informed.
A CBI team is in Dubai and the process to get him back to India is on. Deputy prime minister L K Advani has expressed the hope that the the government will succeed in its efforts to get back Anees Ibrahim to stand trial. Anees is wanted by the Mumbai police and the CBI in connection with the Mumbai serial blasts of March 12, 1993 besides 22 other cases -- out of which most relate to the fake currency and more than seven of such cases were registered under the Maharashtra Control for Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
''Anees Ibrahim fled from India in 1987 and holds a Pakistani passport,'' the official said, adding that they will provide fresh inputs to CBI on Anees Ibrahim as and when required by the agency.
