Semarang (Indonesia), June 15: Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri has received a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) award for her strong commitment to preserving the world's cultural history.
The award was presented to him by World Tourism Organisation secretary general Francisco Srangialli at the opening ceremony of the Borobudur International Festival (BIF) last evening.

"President Megawati has been given the award for her strong commitment to preserving and developing the world's cultural history, including the tourism industry in the resort island of Bali after the deadly October 12, 2002 bombing," Francisco said.
Besides India, the countries which are participating in the seven-day festival include Vietnam, Thailand, South Korea, Singapore, the United States, and Malaysia.

The festival, which features a number of traditional dancing performances and handicraft and arts exhibition, is being held to mark 20th year of Borobudur Temple's renovation.
