New Delhi, Oct 25: The European Union today said it had not asked any developing country, including India, to commit to any Greenhouse Gas Emission reduction target in the current or second commitment period beginning 2012. "We have not asked any developing country, including India, to commit to any targets in the current or the second commitment period beginning 2012," Marriane Wenning, department head of climate change unit, director general environment, EU told reporters at a press meet today – the third day of the UN climate change conference here.
We are not even thinking about commitments for developing countries at the moment, Wenning said but added that the EU wanted discussions on understanding what the signatories will have to talk about in the review session in 2005.
There should be global effort for understanding what should be done in future, she said adding we should prepare ground at this conference about the discussions starting 2012.

Noting that progress was being made at this conference, Wenning said negotiations on certain issues were going well and EU hoped that all the parties will ratify Kyoto Protocol. Bureau Report
