Jammu, Oct 29: An Army jawan was injured in shelling and small arms fire by Pakistani troops in the Rajouri-Poonch sector in Jammu and Kashmir since last night, official sources said here today.
Pakistani troops fired mortar bombs besides resorting to small arms fire on forward locations and some civilian pockets in Arnia, Bhawani, Laam, Kalisan, Jhangar and Rumlidhaara areas of Noushera sector from 2345 hours yesterday, they said.
Around 120 mortar bombs and light artillery shells were fired during the period forcing Indian troops to effectively retaliate, they said. One Army jawan, identified as Surinder Kumar, was injured at a forward post in Arnia and was hospitalised.
Pakistani troops were resorting to shelling in these areas with a view to stall the fencing of the border and also to enable armed ultras to sneak into Indian side from adjoining areas, the sources said, adding alert Indian troops have been foiling the designs. Intermittent small arms fire between the two sides also took place at a few places along the international border in Jammu district without any loss or damage on the Indian side, they said. Bureau Report
