Praveen Togadia detained in Lucknow
Lucknow, Oct 18: Uttar Pradesh Police has detained Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) general secretary Praveen Bhai Togadia at the airport here to prevent his entry into Ayodhya for the `sankalp sabha` this afternoon.
Lucknow, Oct 18: Uttar Pradesh Police has detained Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) general secretary Praveen Bhai Togadia at the airport here to prevent his entry into Ayodhya for the "sankalp sabha" this afternoon.
'' Dr Togadia was taken in custody after he reached here at the Amausi Airport by a flight at around 1000 hours on his way to Ayodhya,'' sources said.
The move to detain Dr Togadia was taken following a request from the Faizabad administration to prevent the entry of the VHP leader.
However sources hinted that the detained VHP leader might be sent back to Delhi. According to sources, Dr Togadia was taken into custody after he came out of the airport terminus. Presently the police has kept the VHP leader at the airport and were persuading him to go back to Delhi.
However VHP sources hinted that Dr Togadia might return to Delhi by flight at around 1300 hours.
VHP central secretary Puroshattam Narain Singh has criticised the act of the Uttar Pradesh government to detain Dr Togadia. He said such an act was undemocratic and against the sentiment of the majority community in the country. He also wanted to know from the government under which Section the VHP leader was detained when he was on his way to Ayodhya to attend the peaceful "sankalp sabha".
Meanwhile, a report from Ayodhya said that ' high alert' was sounded in the temple town by the administration following the detention of the VHP leader. Bureau Report
