Perth, Dec 07: The Netherlands is to meet Argentina in the World Cup women hockey final, after defeating China 1-0 today. The two teams will play for the championship on Sunday. A very happy and relieved Dutch coach, Marc Lammers, said, "We did everything well against China. Technically we played very well."
"Fu Baorong is their strongest player and we closed off all the passes to her. They played with four defenders, even after the goal, so that was no threat to us."

Lammers' only concern is the facial injury to defender Janneke Schopman who was hit in the mouth by a ball, two minutes from time.
"She has gone to the hospital and we will have to wait to see what the doctors say but it does not look good," Lammers said.

After a scoreless first half of pace and precision passing by both teams, Netherlands scored three minutes following the break.
Minke Smabers took a free hit just over Netherlands' defensive quarter line, drilling the ball wide to the left for Mijntje Donners just outside the circle. Donners drew a free hit and hit hard and flat into the circle for Macha van der Vaart to deflect into goal past the left boot of Nie Yali in China's goal.

Following the goal, Netherlands played mistake-free hockey to successfully minimise the chance of China scoring the equaliser. Bureau Report
