The late R&B singer Aaliyah has rocketed into the number one slot of the UK singles charts with her single, More Than A Woman, the Official UK Charts Company said on Sunday. It was the first British number one for the American singer and actress, who died in a plane crash in the Bahamas last August after filming a video.

More Than A Woman, which was released as a single posthumously, is from her third album Aaliyah, which was released last July and topped U.S. album charts after her death.

Aaliyah ousted UK newcomer Daniel Bedingfield`s debut, Gotta Get Thru This, which burst into the charts early last month but was replaced over Christmas by Nicole Kidman and Robbie Williams with their version of Frank Sinatra`s classic Somethin` Stupid. Zooming up from 68th place last week to the number two spot this week was Australia`s drum and bass band Puretone with Addicted To Bass.

Apart from Aaliyah`s single, there were five more new entries to the top 10 for the week ending January 12. Bad Intentions by Dr Dre was in the fourth spot, The Whistle Song (Blow My Whistle Bitch) by DJ Aligator Project was at five and It`s Love (Trippin`) by Goldtrix at six. At eight and nine respectively were Haters by So Solid Crew and Drifting Away by Lange.

Sophie Ellis Bextor`s Murder On The Dancefloor dropped from number two to seventh place, while Handbags and Gladrags by the Stereophonics slipped from fifth to 10th place.
