Madrid, June 25: Real Madrid president Florentino Perez said on Tuesday that Real Madrid are considering Manchester United's Carlos Queiroz as a possible replacement for sacked coach Vicente del Bosque. Real Madrid are considering Manchester United's Carlos Queiroz as a replacement for coach Vicente del Bosque. Queiroz is the number two to manager Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford and his appointment would ease the arrival of England captain David Beckham. "All I can tell you is that Carlos Queiroz is one of the people we are thinking of," the Spanish champions' president Florentino Perez said on Tuesday (June 24). Real released Del Bosque and club captain Fernando Hierro on Monday (June 23), just 24 hours after the team won the Spanish league title for the 29th time. Beckham has been bought from Manchester United in a 35 million euro ($40.50 million) deal and is due to be presented by Real on July 2.

Del Bosque took charge at Real in November 1999 and in less than four years he brought the club seven trophies, including two league titles and two European Cups.

Perez justified Del Bosque's dismissal by saying the 52-year-old was showing signs of exhaustion. The president argued that the club needed a different style of coach.

Sporting Director Jorge Valdano said that the decisions the club had taken weren't easy, but the time was right for a change.

"It hasn't been an easy day," he said. "Two people who have been standard bearers for the club have gone. But we believed that it was time for a change in direction before things stagnate at the club."
