Kathmandu, July 28: The Nepali Congress today
demanded a probe into the killing of its leader Amar Lama, who
was kidnapped and shot dead by unidentified assailants
yesterday, saying it was an attack on the party.
Nepali congress leaders including President Girija
Prasad Koirala paid tributes to lama, whose last rites were
performed today near Swoymanbunath temple here.
Lama ,45, was the only eyewitness to the mysterious death
12 years ago of Nepal Communist Party (UML) General Secretary
Madan Bhandari and its standing committee member Jeev Raj
Asrit in a jeep accident.
"He was dedicated worker of our party and we consider his
assasination as an attack on the party," Nepali Congress
spokesman Arjun Narsingh KC said demanding a probe into the
killing.
"We don't exactly know who is behind the killing but we consider it as an attack against the Nepali Congress Party itself," he said.
Lama had spent four years in jail for negligent driving that led to the death of two Nepal Communist Party (UML) leaders. He later joined Nepali Congress.
Lama was kidnapped yesterday and taken to Kirtipur municipality, eight km south of here and shot dead by gunmen.
Lama was the president of Jai Nepal Sanskritic Pratisthan, an association affiliated to the Nepali Congress. Bureau Report
