Kuala Lumpur, Aug 04: Crompton Greaves of the Thapar Group of Companies has secured about Rs 17 crore orders from Malaysia for power transformers.
The company will supply four units of 240 MVA transformers to Seglec, a Malaysian EPC (equipment, procurement and construction) contractor, Vinod Masson, vice president (transformers) Crompton Greaves said.
Masson, who was here with his colleagues to sign the deal, said the delivery will be made by the end of March and the sale will be logged in the current financial year.
The product will be made and tested in India, he told . As part of company's thrust on exports, the transformers division targets raising its turnover from exports to a 50 per cent from 43 per cent, he added.
"We are exploring Malaysia and other countries to revive our exports in the region," said Vinesh Kumar, general manager (international transformer group) Crompton Greaves.
"It used to be one of the lucrative markets for CG until the Asian financial crisis in late 90s. However, the lull period seems to be over now and once again we expect growth potential from the region," said Kumar.
Other countries to be looked at include Vietnam, Taiwan and Indonesia, he said, adding "in Malaysia Crompton competes with international bigwigs like ABB, Alsthom, Siemens and Hyundai." "However, if they bring their product from the European market we compete on price and if these are procured from their facilities in places like Thailand we mainly compete on quality."
