Quetta (Pakistan), Oct 31: Pakistani border guards raided a remote border point in the country's southwestern Baluchistan province, arresting 74 Pakistanis who were trying to enter Iran illegally, an immigration official said today. The men, who wanted to travel to Europe through Iran, were caught yesterday at Ttaftan, a remote border town about 700 kilometres southwest of Quetta, the capital of Baluchistan province, said the official, Mohammed Gul. Gul said the arrested men have been handed over to immigration officials for questioning. Iran is a major route for illegal immigrants who try to travel to Europe and the middle east in search of better job opportunities, mostly paying human traffickers to help them.

Many are caught by Pakistani and Iranian border guards, however.

Pakistan and Iran in recent months have tightened security along their common border, which is unmarked in some places.
