Several thousand gas victims still await justice
Bhopal, Dec 03: Several thousand victims of the Bhopal gas tragedy continue to grapple with health problems after nearly two decades of the world`s worst industrial disaster.

Large number of condolence meetings and rallies were held on the
19th anniversary of the gas tragedy here today.
Different organisations including Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Udyog Sangathan alleged that the victims had been not properly rehabilitated and were still suffering from various ailments. Sangathan convenor Abdul Jabbar alleged that the government had deliberately ignored the issues relating to the treatment, compensation and rehabilitation of the victims.
He claimed that more than 31,000 had died in the absence of proper treatment and nearly three lakh were still suffering from its aftermath.
Mr Jabbar blamed both the Centre and the state government for the lax in extending justice to gas victims.
Several thousands had died after the leakage of methyl isocayante gas from Union Carbide Factory on the intervening night of two and three December 1984.
