New Delhi, Mar 18: Lambasting Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani for claiming that ''the BJP alone can find a solution to problems with Pakistan because Hindus will never think that whatever we have done can be a sell off'', the Congress demanded his resignation and apology to the nation. ''We would like to ask him (Advani) which sell off to Pakistan he imminently has on mind, especially now that Musharraf has clarified his disagreement with Indian position,'' Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi asked. ''Is Advani preparing us in advance for an imminent sell off to Pakistan?''
The Congress also joined issue with Advani's statement that Indo-Pak relations should be improved for the sake of improving domestic harmony between the communities and that the root cause of tension between Hindus and Muslims was the creation of Pakistan. ''Someone who sees India and Indians through such prejudiced eyes does not deserve to rule this country in any capacity and we demand that he step down,'' Singhvi said.
The Congress spokesman at the same time urged Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to remove Advani forthwith since his party knew that Advani would not step down voluntarily. ''But since we know that the Prime Minister shares these sentiments and is unlikely to do anything except double speak and sermonise, we hereby ask the people of India to ensure that Advani and his party do not return to power.''
Singhvi pointed out that Advani had already been accused in the demolition of the Babri Masjid. ''He (Advani) is at large only because the CBI, as part of this very government over which he presides as a deputy prime minister, has deliberately and in a malfide and discriminatory manner chosen not to file an appeal against him while doing so against others.''
