Islamabad, Aug 22: Pakistan Cricket Board chief executive Rameez Raja has lashed out at the Bangladesh Cricket Board for sacking Pakistani coach Mohsin Kamal following Bangladesh's poor performance in the World Cup early this year.
Raja told during the ongoing test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh at Karachi that the BCB should have treated Kamal with more respect than unceremoniously sacking the coach and putting the entire blame on him.
"Kamal should have been treated with respect by the BCB. If they wanted to sack him they should've done it in a respectable way instead of firing him the way they did," Raja, who was contemporary of Kamal and played a lot of cricket with him, was quoted as saying in the media today.
"Bangladesh did not perform well in the World Cup and one can understand the disappointment of the people, but it wasn't fair to only hold Kamal responsible for the debacle," he said.
Insisting that Kamal was a good coach and a qualified one he said, "he is a respected coach in Pakistan and has a good background, which is why he was sent to Bangladesh for the assignment."

It was on the request of the BCB that the PCB had recommended Kamal for the coaching their team, Raja added.

He said Kamal worked as a coach with regional academies and the PCB was considering giving him a major responsibility as a coach soon.

The PCB itself sacked South African coach Richard Pybus after its team's poor showing in the World Cup and recalled Javed Miandad for the job.
