Sydney, Dec 06: Australia's Davis Cup match against Britain in February will be played in Sydney on clay, the first time in 103 years that Australia has played a home match on such a surface.
Tennis Australia said today that a temporary Claycourt will be laid over the rebound ace surface on the center court at the Sydney international tennis center from Feb 7 to 9.
Two practice courts will also be built and will remain on the former Olympic site after the matches are finished.
Australia defeated France in the 1999 final on clay in nice and also beat Brazil in Florianopolis last year on the surface.

Davis Cup captain John Fitzgerald was confident Australia would fare well against the British players, who are generally more suited to grass.
"Clay is the best option for us to play on if we are to defeat the likes of Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski, both of whom are reputable grass and hardcourt players," Fitzgerald said.
Tennis Australia head Geoff Pollard said his group sought help from a French claycourt specialist.
"When clay was first raised as an option by the players and captain, our first stage was to satisfy ourselves that what is common practice overseas could be achieved here using Australian products," said pollard.
"To determine this we brought over a French claycourt expert to complete a detailed assessment. The report produced very positive feedback and opened the way for clay to be considered as a serious option," he said. Bureau Report
