Detroit, Apr 13: Steve Thomas scored his 51st career playoff goal with 4:14 remaining as the Anaheim Mighty Ducks grabbed a stunning 2-0 lead in their Western Conference quarter-final series with a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings. The Mighty Ducks take a 2-0 lead in the opening-round Western Conference series back to Anaheim after the Red Wings lost the first two games of their first series at home for the second straight year. The Wings carried a 2-1 lead into the third period Saturday (April 12) but Jason Krog tied the game with less than seven minutes left. Just over two minutes later, Thomas fired a slap shot past Curtis Joseph to give the Mighty Ducks the advantage. Stanislav Chistov scored the other Anaheim goal while Rob Niedermayer added two assists. Jean-Sebastien Giguere continued his stellar play in goal by making 34 saves. Detroit out-shot the Ducks 36-23. Jason Woolley and Luc Robitaille scored for the Red Wings in the second period. Game Three is on Monday.
