Four road projects, two each in Jammu and Kashmir regions, will be sanctioned for central funding under the roads of economic importance programme, the state minister for works Ali Mohammad Sagar said in Jammu.
The minister, presiding over a review meeting of roads and buildings R&B department on Tuesday, said 26 road projects have been submitted for central funding under this programme to strengthen road communication network. Fourteen projects are currently under execution under Central Road Fund (CRF) programme, he said adding several more projects are being vigorously pursued for funding under CRF. Referring to the progress made by the R&B sector Jammu, the minister said 24 schemes have been completed under NABARD programme out of the 157 taken up for execution.
A total of 181 schemes costing Rs 150 crore have been sanctioned under NABARD programme in Jammu division, he said. The minister expressed dissatisfaction over the slow pace of work on various road schemes especially in the far-flung areas of Jammu region. He asked the executing agencies to speed up the work so that people can get maximum benefit out of these schemes within the shortest possible time.
Sagar said of the 181 NABARD schemes, 46 are in Jammu, 24 in Kathua, 37 in Udhampur, 26 in Rajouri, 12 in Poonch and 38 in Doda district. Most of the schemes are likely to be completed by March 2002. An allocation of Rs 21.26 crore has been made for road upgradation in Jammu province under annual plan 2001-02.
