Indore, Oct 29: A pilot project will be set up at the famous Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain to generate bio-gas and electricity from the waste accumulated at the temple in the form of religious offerings by devotees. Initially the project would be implemented on an experimental basis and if successful, would be made permanent for judicious use of waste at Mahakal temple, MP Urja Vikas Nigam chairman Tulsi Silavat told reporters.
According to a study, nearly 900 kg of flowers and coconut waste gets accumulated every day while the quantity increases to 1200 kg during festivals, he said. Similarly, 100 litres of curd and milk gets accumulated everyday and over 1000 litres on festivals, which can be converted into bio-gas due to the presence of carbonic substances, he added.
The project would study how much power and gas could be generated through it and whether it would be viable on a permanent basis, Silavat said. The corporation would also establish an energy park in Bhopal, where all solar power equipments would be exhibited with the facility of live demonstration. The park will be set up at an estimated cost of Rs five crore, the chairman said. Bureau Report
