Athens, Jun 04: Kevan Gosper, vice-president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), said yesterday that Athens had made ''amazing progress'' in its preparations to host the 2004 Summer Olympics.
Gosper is in Athens as part of a delegation that is checking on preparations for the 2004 Games, which run from August 13-29. The delegation is led by Denis Oswald, head of the IOC Coordination Commission, and Gilbert Felli, IOC sports director.

Oswald said he was ''impressed'' with the Athens organisation committee's (ATHOC) preparations and was ''confident there would be a great games''.
With 14 months remaining before the opening ceremony, serious delays have left key venue construction and infrastructure projects with extremely tight deadlines.
However, the head of ATHOC, Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki remains confident everything will be completed on time.

''ATHOC, the government and the construction industry are working with a new quality,'' said Daskalaki. ''We'll be finished when the Olympic flame is lit.''
