Rioters scuffled with police in divided north Belfast on Saturday, police said, injuring several officers as violence flared after an emotive soccer game. Rival Catholic and Protestant groups fought each other and police in the Ardoyne, Crumlin Road, Duncairn Gardens and Whitewell areas of the city, the Police Service of Northern Ireland said. A spokesman said petrol bombs and fireworks were hurled by crowds in the Ardoyne, site of frequent sectarian violence between Prote stant and Catholic youths.

There were reports of gunshots, and one man was admitted to a local hospital with a gunshot wound in his leg.

Police fired several plastic bullets at rioters, the spokesman said.
