World championship leader Valentino Rossi grabbed pole position for Sunday's Spanish Moto Grand Prix with a dominant qualifying display at Jerez. Last year's champion ran fastest for the entire session and notched up a lap time of one minute 42.193 seconds.

"Another pole position is good news, but the important thing is Sunday's race," Rossi said after qualifying.

"We seem to have quite a good setting and after I switched to softer tyres we set a very good lap time."
West Honda's Alex Barros - less than three 10ths behind - will line up in second place after coming on strong late in the session, while team-mate Loris Capirossi is third and Fortuna Honda's Daijiro Kato in fourth.

But Barros knows he will have his work cut out if he is to challenge Rossi.
