South Korean President Kim Dae-Jung quit his ruling party and made a new public apology on Monday as anger mounted nationwide over alleged corruption by his sons and aides. Kim said in a statement read at a press conference by a top official: “How can I apologise enough for the scandal and public anger over my sons and some of the figures around me? I once again make a sincere apology.”
The president founded the ruling millennium democratic Party and turned it into his personal political force before the 1997 presidential election. He stood down as MDP leader in November last year. His term as president ends in February next year after an election to find a replacement is held in December.
