Islamabad, June 16: In an apparent attempt to backtrack on his remarks on the chances of recurrence of Kargil type conflict with India, Pakistan President Pervez
Musharraf has claimed that he has been quoted out of context
and said it was an attempt to project him as a "war monger."
Elaborating his statement he said, "The issue is what I said. I
said 'if we don't resolve this (Kashmir) anything can happen.
Why are they pinning it on me as though I am going to do
something. I am not going to do anything.'"
He said what he said was not an aggressive statement but statement of fact. But at the same time he said there was no guarantee that both India and Pakistan would not go to a fourth war in the future.
"We have fought three wars in the past, so what is the guarantee in the future there won't be any further action. That is not a aggressive statement, it is a statement of fact," he said. Musharraf who begins a four-nation visit to Britain, US, Germany and France said that during his meeting with US President George W Bush, he would urge him to put more pressure on India to resolve Kashmri issue.
"Any attempts to improve relations and deal with all issues by sidelining Kashmir will not work, it has never worked in the past," he said.
