Ara, June 29: The lone Bihar legislative council seat from Bhojpur and Buxar will witness an interesting contest on July 10 between former director general of police R R Prasad and notorious criminal Viseshwar Ojha.
Both Prasad and Ojha were promising to weed out corruption and raise issues relating to law and order situation and civic amenities if elected to the Upper House.
It was during Prasad's tenure that the award of Rs 20,000 was announced for the arrest of Ojha, involved in several cases of murder, loot and encounter.
Refusing to talk about his criminal background, Ojha said that his priority would be to raise the issue of border dispute between Bihar and neighbouring Uttar Pradesh that had claimed several lives in the past and work for welfare of the poor.
Prasad said he would raise the matter relating to law and order and better civic amenities for the people if elected to the council. On his rivals particularly Ojha, the former DGP said people are intelligent and they will judge who can work better for them.
Prasad and Ojha were among 41 nominees in fray for the lone council seat. A total of 6150 voters would cast their votes at 25 polling booths in Bhojpur and Buxar districts.
The election to 24 vacant legislative council seats for representatives of local bodies will be held on July 10 across the state.
