New Delhi, Mar 12: Lauding the steps taken by the Uttaranchal government in promotion of tourism in the state, the World Tourism Organisation (WTO) has assured the hill state to support and further its tourism-related activities.
Uttaranchal, a picturesque state with mountains, rivers and spots of religious tourism, has recently been included in the list of renowned tour operators of united states and several European countries.
''Uttaranchal has tremendous potential for developing as a leading tourist destination,'' WTO secretary general Francesco Frangialli said in discussions with Uttaranchal Tourism Minister. .

Rawat and Parsad had gone to Berlin on the invitation of Frangialli and held detailed discussions with him and H Varma, WTO regional representative for Asia and the Pacific, and other officials on the technical assistance to Uttarachal from the organisation. The areas of co-operation identified between WTO, a specialised agency of the United Nations for promoting tourism-related activities and providing technical assistance to the nation states globally, and Uttaranchal would cover a master plan for the overall development of tourism in the state with a special focus on branding and an image-building campaign in order to attract high-spending tourists both at the domestic as well as at the international level.
It may be recalled that the Uttaranchal government has envisaged a comprehensive long-term tourism policy, which has received all-round praise for its focussed approach to develop tourism in the state.
