Ludhiana, Nov 08: SGPC president and veteran Akali leader, Gurcharan Singh Tohra has alleged that his political career has been constantly jeopardised by an influential coterie in his own party. He told a private TV channel that since the very days of his rise from the party ranks this coterie had always conspired to block his way to the seat of political power the channel said in a press release.

Admitting that he preferred to be a political leader rather than a religious one, he indicated that even behind putting him in SGPC president's chair, many a times the hidden agenda of his intra-party opponents had been to keep him out of the political reckoning.

Speaking his heart out in 'Kahrian Kharian' programme of Lashkara to be telecast on Sunday evening, Tohra pointed out that even after the recent patch-up between him and the party supremo Badal, he could have been given a position of his stature in the party, instead of SGPC presidentship which he was reluctant to resume.
Though Tohra refrained from naming his detractors in the party, he indicated that they had been working against him hand in glove with some majority community leaders in Delhi.
