Congress candidates to be finalised for five poll states
New Delhi, Oct 27: Central Election Committee (CEC) of the Congress party would meet here from today to finalise party candidates for the five states going to Assembly polls on December one.

The three-day exercise, to be presided over by party chief Sonia Gandhi, would scrutinise the lists of party candidates for the five states screened by the respective screening committee headed by senior party leaders, party sources said.
All the members of the Congress Working Committee and AICC general secretaries incharge of the states -- Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Mizoram --would be attending the scrutiny committee.
In the absence of Parliamentary Board, the CEC has been concerted into Parliamentary Board to scrutinise candidates.
While Madhya Pradesh screening committee headed by G Venkataswami has already screened candidates for the 230-member state assembly, Rajasthan began its process with senior party leader Manmohan Singh meeting other members of the screening committee for the state.
AICC general secretary incharge of Rajasthan Ambika Soni, senior party leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Moti Lal Vora, Mukul Wasnik, K D Sultanpuri, state Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and PCC chief Girija Vyas are the leaders attending Rajasthan meeting here to screen candidates for 200 Assembly seats.
According to sources, Chhatisgarh screening committee would also be able to finish its process by the time CEC meeting here. Delhi screening committee, according to sources, would be meeting on November one to finalise candidates for 70-member state Assembly.
