Ranchi, July 01: Party for Democratic Socialism (PDS), a breakaway group of CPI(M), today said an alliance with the Left Front government in West Bengal was possible if
the Buddhadev Bhattacharjee regime "gave up political violence and accepted political pluralism".
"An alliance can be possible with the front to check
rising communalism, but it should give up political violence
witnessed during the recent panchayat elections and should
have the courage to accept political pluralism," Chowdhury,
who came here to attend a Jharkhand Front rally, told.
Stating that he was striving to bring like-minded parties together to create a new political culture in West Bengal, Chowdhury said "while my party considers the Left Front as its political competitor, the latter sees the PDS as its enemy."
Chowdhury also chided Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee for her 'inconsistency, fickleness and power-oriented mind-set.'
Chowdhury, who walked off the stage at yesterday's Jharkhand Front rally, regretted having shared the dias with its convenor Salkhan Murmu after his "provocative" speech which was followed by a bandh call on July 14 in three West Bengal districts.
The PDS leader said "I came here on the request of Suraj Mandal with the intention of strengthening unity among people of the two bordering states."
But, he said, he was taken aback when the dissident BJP MP publicly declared that Biharis and outsiders would be driven out of Jharkhand if the front came to power.
