New Delhi, July 05: Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga today said that he had held preliminary discussions with senior political leaders - his Nagaland counterpart Neiphiu Rio and NCP leader P A Sangma - to chalk out a common strategy against Congress for the coming elections in some northeastern states. "We - the like-minded political leaders - sat together and had preliminary discussions to chalk out a common strategy for the upcoming elections," he told reporters when asked about his meeting with the two leaders here.

The meeting assumes significance in the wake of reports that the regional parties were trying to form a political alliance against the Congress in the northeast, with the backing of NDA parties like BJP and Samata.

"Congress is not part of it (alliance)," Zoramthanga said.

Asked whether the issue of mediation in the Naga peace process also arose during the meeting, he replied in the affirmative but did not elaborate.
