Srinagar, May 28: Rejecting Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's suggestion for soft borders with Pakistan, opposition National Conference today demanded reopening of
Baramulla-Rawalpindi road to bring economic prosperity to the state.
"NC leadership is of the firm view that opening of
Baramulla-Rawalpindi road will bring economic prosperity to
the state besides facilitate easy interaction between
Kashmiris from two sides of line of control," provincial chief
of NC Mehboob Beg said today.
He ridiculed Mufti's suggestion of making LoC a soft border and said as pradesh Congress chief Mufti had been attacking NC for its consistent political stand of reopening of Rawalpindi road.
Criticising coalition government for causing hardships and harassment to citizens even before the proposed conclave of Congress chief ministers in Srinagar, Mehboob said PDP-led coalition government was diverting the attention of the people by inviting chief ministers from Congress ruled states and causing hardships and further harassment to citizens.
He said instead of resolving Kashmir dispute by initiating an unconditional dialogue between alienated Kashmiri youth and the Centre the coalition government was working overtime for the Congress conclave.
"The government should concentrate on checking human rights violations, custodial killings, harassment of citizens by forces in the state," Mehboob said in a statement. Bureau Report
