Bangkok, May 22: Thailand Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra yesterday said he hoped his country's USD 100 million bid to buy a 30 per cent stake of English Premier League club Liverpool would go through next week despite new sticking points.
While the famed Merseyside club remained silent about negotiations, Thaksin said Thai dealmakers had taken a break from the bid to focus on a censure debate in Parliament targetting eight of his Cabinet.
"No agreement will be signed this weekend. We are not sending anyone there (to Liverpool) yet, as we are busy with the censure debate," he told media.
"If we are able to agree I will try to conclude everything next week."
Thaksin reaffirmed that Thailand still needed to resolve a handful of differences with the club and stressed the kingdom needed to protect its potential investment.

"We have to receive considerable protection as a minority shareholder of less than 50 per cent. It's not small money," he said of the Thai investment which he pegged last week at 4.3 billion baht (105 million dollar).

Thaksin Thursday pointed to a dispute over the number of seats Thailand would have on the club's board, stressing that it was pushing for a similar number of board members to Liverpool chairman and majority shareholder David Moores' proportion.
