Naga separatist leader T.H. Muivah has left Thailand after a court dismissed charges that he traveled into the kingdom on forged documents, his lawyer and police said on Monday.
Muivah, secretary-general of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN), flew to Europe last Friday after Bangkok's criminal court dismissed the case on July 11, his lawyer said.
He had probably gone to the Netherlands, said the lawyer, who requested anonymity. Senior Thai police confirmed Muivah had left the country after being declared persona non grata.
Muivah was originally arrested in January 2000 at Bangkok airport after being caught trying to enter the country on a fake South Korean passport.
He had been attempting to travel to peace talks with the Indian government, and argued that he had to use fake documents because he did not accept Indian rule and could not take an Indian passport.
Muivah was later re-arrested and jailed after he was caught travelling on a fake Singaporean passport while out on bail.
