New Delhi, Apr 19: Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh today accused Mayawati government of hatching a conspiracy to liquidate him saying that he has information that 12 criminals had been released from Aligarh jail to physically harm him. "Attempts are being made to book me under Pota. UP Chief Minister Mayawati has been threatening me with dire consequences and to arrest me from any corner of the country. I have information through police and administration sources that 12 criminals had been released from Aligarh Jail to physically harm me," Singh told reporters here.

The Samajwadi Party general secretary, with 'Y-category' security, said that he had written a letter to deputy prime minister L K Advani about threat to his life from Mayawati government and that he had promised to look into the matter.

Accusing Mayawati of turning state politics into a "gangwar", Singh said "Her conduct is like that of a gang leader. It is not correct to equate her with Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa as she did not file over 500 cases in a single day."

Daring Mayawati to arrest him, Singh said that he would be visiting Varanasi tomorrow to meet party workers inspite of Mayawati threat to arrest me. "It is unfortunate that a political leader like myself is being dubbed as a criminal, while a criminal like Mukhtar Ansari is roaming freely on the streets of Lucknow."
