Paris, June 26: Paris' best-known landmark, the Eiffel tower, is being dressed-up with sparkling new lights.
A spectacular stage show to build up the unveiling of the Eiffel Tower's breath taking new lights. Almost two years after wear and tear darkened Paris' most recognisable feature 20,000 new lights were installed on the tower over the last five months.
There was a countdown. And the old lights were turned off. Then the lever was pressed to illuminate the new lights. The tower will now be engulfed in twinkling lights for 10 minutes at the start of every hour from dusk until one or two in the morning.
This stunning lighting design was first installed to show off the tower on the night of the Millennium. It was so popular the lights were left on but they were only short life bulbs and many burnt out after 7 months.
Organisers invested more durable lights on this occasion, so they'll last the distance, they're set to flash more than 10 million times over the next 10 years.
