Sydney, Sept 10: Former captain Greg Chappell said he was looking for greater role in Australian cricket after joining the Australian Cricketers Association (ACA) executive today.
Chappell, Victorian pace bowler Mathew Inness and South Australian batsman Chris Davies were elected for two-year terms at the ACA annual general meeting in Hobart.
They replace former Test players Greg Matthews and Damien Fleming and Jeff Vaughan.
Chappell said he wanted a direct hand in Australian cricket. "I hope my experiences as a player, coach and selector can allow me to contribute to the ongoing relationship between players and administrators," he said.
"As a founding member of the first cricketers association in 1977, my election to the ACA executive will provide me with an avenue to continue with my contribution to player issues," Chappel added. The re-elected members of the players' union executive are Test opening batsman Matthew Hayden, Mike Hussey, Tim May and ACA president Ian Healy. Bureau Report
