Mumbai, Aug 26: Renowned Hindustani vocalist Ustad Niyaz Ahmed Khan died here today after a brief illness, family sources said. He was 79. Niyaz Khan belonged to the Kirana Gharana and was a nephew of the great Abdul Kharim Khan and a winner of Afiz Ali and Tansen Awards, his senior most disciple Ustad Dilshad Khan told a news agency here today. Niyaz Khan was famous for his performance at the 1984 festival of India in the Albert Hall in UK. His music album which was released in 1970 in New York was quoted as the best seller by the New York Times.
He sang the famous song with Mohammad Rafi "Madhubanu me radhika..." In film "Kohinoor", directed by Nashaud.

Some of his famous disciples include Roopam Tathore, Poorvi Parekh, Kishori Parekh and Sunali Rathore.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and three daughters.
