Beijing, Aug 16: China plans to build a 5,000-bed "super-hospital" featuring the world's brightest doctors and most advanced technology to meet the needs of the 2008 summer
Olympics, state media said today.
The hospital, located in the Zhongguancun district in the north of the capital, will require an estimated investment of 720 million dollars, the Beijing Morning Post reported.
It is expected to offer world-class facilities for medical treatment and testing, and will seek to attract the best doctors from China and abroad, the paper said.
The hospital costs are just a fraction of the 28 billion dollars budgeted by Beijing to ensure the games are a success. Eighteen sports facilities are being built in the Chinese capital at a cost of more than three billion dollars.
A new airport is expected to be completed in time for the 2008 games, and roads and metro stops have been planned as well. A new runway and terminal are also expected to open at the existing airport by 2007.
