Kolkata, July 23: The Trinamool Congress has called an emergency meeting at the residence of party chief Mamata Banerjee today evening. Mamata has taken back her 72-hour West Bengal bandh ultimatum after an assurance from the Prime Minister that the decision to bifurcate the Eastern Railways will be reviewed by the Union Cabinet. At today’s meeting, Trinamool will decide the next course of action and deliberate on tomorrow’s agenda of processions and ‘rail roko’ plan.
On Monday, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had said that the Union Cabinet will consider the issue of bifurcation of Eastern Railway zone at its next meeting in the wake of "diverse" reaction in the country.
Mamata has welcomed the Prime Minister's statement of considering bifurcation of railway zones at the next meeting of the Union Cabinet and said her party's decision to call a 72-hour bandh on the issue has been kept in abeyance.
Banerjee said it was a correct decision to refer the matter back to the Cabinet and hoped that a 'right' decision on the controversial issue would be taken after considering all aspects.
