Chennai, July 11: With MDMK leader, Vaiko, MP languishing in Vellore prison for a year now as a Pota detenu, the party has decided to organise meetings throughout the state on July 11 and 12 to condemn the "misuse of Pota".
DMK president, M Karunanidhi, will preside over the protest meeting in Chennai today, MDMK presidium chairman, L Ganesan, told newsmen after a meeting of the political affairs
committee and the executive committee here.
A resolution passed at today's meeting condemned the Jayalalithaa government for 'misusing' Pota against her political opponents, despite assurances given by the Prime Minister, A B Vajpayee and Deputy Prime Minister, L K Advani, both in Parliament and outside that it would not be misused. Asking the MDMK cadre to hoist black flags in their houses and sport black dresses for two days from July 11, Ganesan said it was 'highly condemnable' that the central government had not yet arranged accommodation for the Pota review committee in Delhi.
To a question, Ganesan said there was no 'friction' between the BJP and one of its constituents, MDMK, on the Vaiko arrest issue, as the BJP leaders had already condemned the arrest. Bureau Report
