Siwan, Aug 13: Controversial RJD MP Mohammed Shahabuddin surrendered before a local court here today in connection with the case of kidnapping and suspected murder of a CPI-ML activist. He was subsequently remanded to 14-day judicial custody.
The Lok Sabha member from Siwan was on the run ever since Bihar Police chief D P Ojha issued express orders for his arrest on July 30 in the kidnapping and suspected murder of CPI-ML activist Munna Chaudhary in 2001.
The Siwan strongman gave himself up before the court of chief judicial magistrate Sushil Kumar Sinha.
The Court has fixed August 25 as the next date of hearing.
The surrender followed rejection of Shahabuddin`s anticipatory bail application by district and sessions judge Abhijit Sinha on August 7 and order for attachment of his property by the CJM the next day.
A Siwan court had issued non-bailable arrest warrents against the MP in February 2001 in the Munna Chaudhary case and Shahabuddin was evading arrest ever since.
