Lucknow, Sept 18: A day after rejecting a fresh notification for trial in Babri Masjid demolition case in which Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani is among the accused, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today said it was for the CBI to decide whether to pursue the matter in an ordinary court or special court. In a statement issued here, she said if the CBI wishes to take the case to the special court, there already is one such special court in Raebareli and there is no need to constitute a new one.
Dismissing as baseless opposition charges that she had made a U-turn on the issue, Mayawati said "The subject matter of notification has nothing to do with granting of permission to prosecute. In reality the notification matter is concerned only with the jurisdiction of the court."
The Chief Minister said she had not gone through the matter while being in the opposition and had given statement in this regard only on the basis of media reports.
"After carefully studying the files concerning the matter I was surprised to know that the issue of notification was not related to starting the prosecution but was concerned only with the point as to where the case should be pursued," she said.

Mayawati charged the opposition with misleading the people on the issue despite knowing the facts to gain political mileage.
