New Delhi, Feb 06: In a bid to address concerns of the industry on imports of certain items from Nepal, the government has revised the procedure for monitoring imports of acrylic yarn, copper products and zinc oxide from the Himalayan Kingdom.

Under the revised procedure, notified by finance ministry earlier this week a monitoring agency has been appointed for imports of each of the three products. Official sources said here that the changes had been incorporated after an official level meeting between the two countries in January this year which was attended by Nepalese exporters. The changes are intended to smoothen import procedures and address bottlenecks coming in the way of trade.

"The textiles committee shall be the monitoring agency for import of acrylic yarn and MMTC shall be the monitoring agency for imports of copper products and zinc oxide from Nepal into India upto the respective tariff Tate quota ceilings," the notification said.

Under the procedure, the Nepalese government will distribute through allocation letters, quantities of acrylic yarn, copper products and zinc oxide upto the prescribed tariff rate quota limits to Nepalese exporters.

Nepalese exporters would be issued a 'pass book' by MMTC for imports of copper products and zinc oxide and by the textile committee for imports of acrylic yarn into India.

A period of 30 days from date of allotment mentioned in the passbook shall be allowed for entry of the consignment of acrylic yarn upto the allocated quantity whereas a maximum of 30 days from date of expiry as mentioned in the passbook shall be allowed for copper and zinc oxide.
