Hardware next biggest opportunity: Nasscom
Chennai, Aug 27: With the emergence of BFSI, telecom and government as strong vertical segments in India for the Indian software and services sector, Nasscom has begun promoting the manufacturing sector as the next biggest opportunity to be tapped in the domestic market.

"Currently the manufacturing sector accounts for about 15% of IT usage across sectors in domestic market," said Kiran Karnik, president, Nasscom at a seminar on ‘Leveraging IT for Manufacturing Sector Growth' organised by Nasscom in Chennai.
Of the domestic market, with an estimated size of $ 2.5 billion, IT/Telecom accounts for 22%, followed by BFSI (21%) and Government (14%).

In the Indian manufacturing sector, which is a on a growth path, a large number of players have been early adopters of IT to be globally competitive with increased adoption of technologies like ERP, CAD, SCM and Data warehousing that bring efficiency, improved processes and quality.
"India has potential to become global manufacturing hub as it has the required skill-set, good sense of technology and advanced software exports," said Karnik.
