Chennai, Apr 28: A petition by editor of a Tamil magazine R R gopal, challenging his remand to police custody for a week by a designated Pota court, will be heard by Madras High Court in the last week of June. When the petition came up for hearing today, a division bench, comprising Justice N Dinakar and Justice S Ashok Kumar, directed that it be posted for hearing in the last week of June.

On April 22, designated Pota judge L Rajendran had remanded Gopal to police custody till April 29, on an application by the crime branch-CID of the Tamil Nadu Police.
In his appeal, Gopal contended that the order of the special court was against law and material on record.

Gopal was arrested on April 11 and charged under IPC and arms act and remanded to judicial custody till April 25. On April 16 he was brought under the provisions of Pota.


An unlicenced revolver and a pamphlet of the banned Tamil National Liberation Army outfit was allegedly found on him on April 11 during questioning in connection with the alleged pay-off to forest brigand Veerappan for the release of Kannada film star Rajkumar in 2000 during DMK rule.
