Bhopal, May 06: Describing Congress as an "exhausted and wearied" party, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani today said people want it to "retire" from the political turf as they are "eager" to give BJP-led NDA a "decisive mandate" for another term at the Centre to ensure speedy progress. "Congress is today so exhausted and tired that people want the party to take retirement from the political scene ... What Congress failed to accomplish in 50 years was achieved under the NDA rule in six years," he said during a whirlwind election tour of Madhya Pradesh.
The Deputy Prime Minister was addressing a series of poll meetings at places, including the tribal belt of Jhabua, minority-dominated Burhanpur in Khandwa and Itarsi in Hoshangabad Lok Sabha constituency to campaign for the final phase of polling in the state.
"Rejection" of congress by the people was clear when the party faced crushing defeat at the hands of BJP in the December assembly elections in three states, including Madhya Pradesh "because of its dismal performance," Advani said at Jhabua. Expressing confidence that Atal Bihari Vajpayee would again become the Prime Minister after the 14th Lok Sabha elections, Advani said: "Nobody has any doubt about the poll results which will give NDA a clear majority to storm back to power."
At Burhanpur and Itarsi, he said the BJP-led NDA is committed to transform India into an advanced nation by the year 2020 when all the six lakh villages in the country would be provided electricity, road connectivity, water, educational facilities, housing and other amenities.
