Hazaribagh, Nov 03: Banned naxalite outfits Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) and People's War had forged links with anti-India elements in various South Asian countries, External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha said here today. The links of MCC and PW with such elements in countries like Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Myanmar posed a threat to the nation, he told a press conference.
With the help from the anti-India elements, they are creating disturbances in states like Jharkhand and Bihar hampering development, he said.
He said the Centre was well aware of the seriousness of the situation and was committed to checking their activities.
Stating that comprehensive schemes needed to be chalked out to tackle the naxalite menace both by crushing these organisations and launching attractive rehabilitation schemes for the ultras who gave up their arms, he said the matter was discussed during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani and Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda last month in which he was also present.
He said the Centre had asked the Jharkhand government to fill the 10,000 vacant posts in the state police to give a fresh thrust to anti-naxalite operations.
A team of experts from central para-military forces has already arrived in Ranchi to impart training to the Jharkhand police. Bureau Report
