Tehri, Sept 08: Indefinite fast by nearly a dozen protesters, taken into preventive custody for obstructing the movement of trucks carrying construction materials of the Tehri dam, continued for the second day today even as uneasy calm prevailed in Asena village where protest demonstration were held over illegal confinement of nearly 50 people.

Opposition parties led by BJP today criticised the Congress government in Uttaranchal for committing atrocities on innocent people of Asena village and demanded immediate release of the people arrested. Leader of the Opposition and senior BJP leader Bhagat Singh Koshiyari while slamming the "illegal" detention, alleged that the state government was backtracking from its election manifesto which promised speedy rehabilitation of Tehri dam oustees.
Minister of State for Industries Kishore Upadhyay, who met the detainees in jail, said that he has taken up the issue of detention of 50 people with chief minister N D Tiwari and demanded their release without any recondition. Bureau Report
