Karachi, July 22: Pakistani Police commandos today shot dead four armed men and rescued a driver and a security guard held hostage, officials said.
The commandos were called in after the gunmen hijacked a van transporting pharmaceuticals in central Karachi, city police chief Asad Jehangir told reporters. He said the men had taken both the driver and a guard hostage.

"Police commandos on three motor-cycles killed all four bandits, believed to be Afghans, after they hijacked a van of a private firm," Jehangir said. The driver and the guard were unhurt, and police recovered three pistols and a dagger from the gunmen, Jehangir said.

"The bandits have not yet been identified, but they look like Afghans," he said.
